We meet in an informal setting to discuss interesting problems or topics in mathematics. The goal is to get the students excited about interesting mathematics, not to accelerate them in school mathematics.

The Copper Country Math Circle is for 2nd – 5th-grade students from Keweenaw, Houghton, and Baraga Counties. Students will develop a positive attitude towards mathematics by engaging young children with interesting mathematical problems. Each meeting will vary depending on the lesson’s mathematical content and will be full hands-on activities, games, short problems, and guided discussions.

Program Date/Time

We will meet one Thursday evening per month. Overflow sessions will be scheduled if needed. Material is not cumulative so please feel free to sign up at any time. Parents are welcome to wait in the library or drop their children off and be back for pickup at 8 p.m.

Spring 2026
6:30-8:00 p.m.
January 2, February 12, March 12, <s>April 9</s> April 16 (Tentative)

The program is free and sponsored by the Copper Country Intermediate School District (CCISD) and the Michigan Technological University Department of Mathematical Sciences.
